Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician Skills and Placement Coordinator is responsible to attend and instruct the Barrie skills camps, provide instruction to the pharmacy technician students at regularly scheduled class times, and provide support to the pharmacy technician program as well as regular maintenance and updating of skills curriculum and responsible to liaise with community and hospital pharmacies to maintain existing placements and establish new placement hosts.

Duties and Responsibilities

Academic

  • Ensure students are being taught in accordance with approved curriculum
  • Foster an environment of co-operation and co-ordination among instructional staff
  • Participate in the student appeal process when required

Administrative

  • Assist with tracking student hours in accordance with college procedures
  • Attend graduation ceremonies
  • Implement and follow the policies and procedures established by the College
  • Participate in meetings with staff when required
  • Participate in student orientations
  • Maintain proper records of student meetings
  • Submit monthly reports to the program coordinator
  • Complete marking and marks report forms
  • Follow up with student medical documents for placement
  • Aid with the administration of the precepted placement process
  • Complete regular remediation hours with students in need of assistance

Instructional

  • Teach students using a systematic plan that consists of lectures, demonstrations, discussion groups, interactive activities, independent and group projects
  • Inform students, beforehand, of the basis upon which their performance will be evaluated;
  • Organize and effectively use classroom time
  • Use instruction techniques/methods that recognize and take into account needs and learning capacities of students
  • Modify techniques during instruction in response to the needs of the students
  • Assist students in developing efficient learning skills and work habits
  • Ensure all course objectives and modules are taught according to the program schedules
  • Implement course outlines and daily breakdowns
  • Modify course outlines in light of the needs of the students
  • Establish an appropriate atmosphere in the classroom which is conducive to learning
  • Maintain fair, firm and consistent discipline with the students
  • Regularly monitor student progress and adjust courses accordingly
  • Prepare teaching materials and outlines for courses
  • Prepare, administer and mark tests and papers to evaluate students’ progress
  • Provide individualized tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it
  • Supervise independent or group projects
  • Base the evaluation of students on the guidelines established by the College
  • Ensure that the evaluation of students is appropriate;
  • Keep accurate and complete records of student performance
  • Ensure all evaluation records are regularly updated on the college‚Äôs electronic server;
  • Prepare final examinations in accordance with guidelines established on the course outline
  • Provide timely feedback to students regarding academic progress

Skills Coordination

  • Review and update skills curriculum
  • Teach during skills camps as assigned by campus director
  • Assist students with local accommodations at the college corporate rate, where applicable
  • Train skills instructors
  • Ensure labs are prepared in advance of skills camps
  • Conduct skills camp inventory audits
  • Purchase necessary equipment and materials for skills camps
  • Confirm appropriate hardware is available during labs
  • Assist with skills camp schedule when requested by campus director

Placement Coordination

  • Maintain regular contract and occasionally travel to placement sites to establish and maintain ongoing placement rotation opportunities for students
  • Establish affiliation agreements with the placement hosts
  • Establish new community and hospital sites to arrange placements and new affiliation agreements
  • Ensure that appropriate and complete student documentation is submitted to the placement hosts for students to begin placement
  • Ongoing maintenance of placement contact in college database
  • Setting expectations and following appropriate process for preparing students for placement
  • Obtaining the preferred placement choices from students
  • Conducting appropriate placement orientation for students
  • Monitor student progress and ensure students have extension contracts in place when necessary
  • Maintain regular contact with preceptors and follow up more frequently when required
  • Update ticket competencies as needed
  • Review ticket packages to ensure students have completed all necessary items
  • Provide updates to campus director and program coordinator regarding student progress on placement upon the conclusion of student contract
  • Collaborate with campus director to discuss student issues or concerns during placement

Other

  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation in areas of responsibility
  • Maintain professional registration through your governing body
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications

Education

The successful candidate needs to have a Pharmacy Technician Diploma and be a registered pharmacy technician.

Experience

The successful candidate requires a minimum of 24 months of working experience in their field of study to qualify as an industry instructor. It will be a requirement for this position that the candidate maintain professional registration through the governing body during employment.

Compensation

The successful candidate can expect a starting range between $24.00 – $27.00 per hour and will be eligible for benefits upon successful completion of their probationary period.
