Discover the Learn and Stay Grant
The Ontario Learn and Stay Grant is a government-funded initiative designed to address workforce shortages in critical sectors by providing financial support to students pursuing education in high-demand fields. Specifically targeting regions like Northern Ontario, the grant covers tuition, books, and other direct educational expenses for eligible programs, including paramedicine. In exchange, recipients commit to working in the same region where they studied for a specified period after graduation.
This grant offers significant benefits to students, particularly those in underserved areas. By alleviating the financial burden of education, it enables more individuals to pursue careers in essential services, thereby strengthening local healthcare systems. Communities benefit from an influx of trained professionals who are familiar with regional needs and challenges.
At CTS Canadian Career College, students have the opportunity to take advantage of this grant through their Primary Care Paramedic program. This intensive 52-week program combines theoretical instruction with practical experience, including 450 hours of clinical and field placements. Available at campuses in North Bay, Sudbury, and Sault Ste. Marie, the program is designed to prepare students for the demands of a paramedic career.
To be eligible for the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant at CTS, applicants must be legal residents of Ontario and enrolled in the first or second year of an eligible program. They must also agree to work in the region where they studied for a minimum of six months for every year of funding received. It’s important to note that recipients cannot be receiving funding from other government programs simultaneously. CTS’s financial aid office assists students in navigating the application process to ensure they meet all requirements.
This initiative not only supports individual educational goals but also contributes to the broader objective of enhancing healthcare services in Northern Ontario. By training and retaining skilled professionals within the region, the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant plays a crucial role in building resilient communities.

Our History
Since 1984, CTS Canadian Career College has been dedicated to helping students launch rewarding careers through practical, hands-on education. As a family-owned and operated institution, CTS was founded on values of integrity, community, and support. Over the decades, we’ve remained true to those roots while evolving to meet the changing needs of the workforce. Today, CTS Canadian Career College is recognized not only for our quality of education but also for our collaborative, forward-thinking approach to career training across Ontario.
A major milestone in our journey came in the early 2000s, when CTS Canadian Career College became the first career college in Ontario to offer a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program. Recognizing a critical need for more paramedics across the province—especially in northern communities—our Founder and CEO, Carlos Carvalho, championed the development of an accessible, career-ready training model. This pioneering effort laid the foundation for what would become our flagship program.
Our PCP program is now the most popular offering across all four of our campuses. What sets it apart is the strength of our instructional team, which includes seasoned professionals from across the paramedicine spectrum—flight medics, event medics, community paramedics, and more. With years of experience ranging from over 25 years to new teaching assistants eager to give back to the field, our team brings a depth of knowledge and passion that is second to none.
From 2009 to 2018, we extended the reach of our program by offering PCP training in Sault Ste. Marie through a satellite campus. Carlos Carvalho’s vision for expanding access to paramedic training in northern Ontario led to a hybrid delivery model: students completed their theory courses online and honed their practical skills locally through our trusted partners. This model not only made training more accessible but also helped address regional shortages in emergency medical services.
The success of our accelerated learning model lies in its immersive approach and expert-led instruction. We are proud to have trained countless paramedics who now serve communities across Ontario and Canada—saving lives and making a difference every day. At CTS Canadian Career College, we believe in giving back to the profession by fostering the next generation of medics. Whether you’re a seasoned paramedic or just starting your journey, there’s a place for you here to share your knowledge, your passion, and your purpose.
