Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician Sudbury Lead will be responsible to attend and instruct at all the Sudbury skills camps and Barrie skills camps when requested, provide instruction online or onsite as scheduled to the pharmacy technician students at regularly scheduled class times, and provide administrative support to the pharmacy technician program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative – Academic

  • Ensure students are being taught in accordance with approved curriculum
  • Foster an environment of co-operation and co-ordination among instructional staff
  • Participate in the student appeal process when required
  • Participate in student meetings as requested
  • Assist with tracking student hours in accordance with college procedures
  • Attend graduation ceremonies
  • Implement and follow the policies and procedures established by the College
  • Participate in meetings with staff and outside committees when required
  • Participate in student orientations
  • Maintain proper records of student meetings
  • Submit monthly reports to the program coordinator
  • Help with marking and grading of any course work assigned from courses taught by other instructors
  • Create curricular content for online delivery, as requested
  • Conduct remediation as requested
  • Proctor exam as requested

Administrative – Skills Camps

  • Review and receive pharmacy technician supplies
  • Report the consumption of products during skills camps
  • Prepare for skills camps
  • Conduct inventory of supplies before and after skills camps
  • Prepare order requests to send to Campus Director to replenish supplies for upcoming skills camps
  • Ensure equipment and labs are in good working order
  • Ensure labs are set up for the appropriate number of students attending skills camps
  • Ensure all printing of materials is done in advance for skills camps
  • Review curriculum and provide input for updates
  • Create curricular content (e.g., demo video, new assignments, station tasks, etc.), as requested

Administrative – Placement

  • Assist with immediate needs of upcoming placements, as directed
  • Assist with reviewing student placement preparedness (e.g., mask fitting, medical, criminal record checks, etc.)
  • Placement follow ups on scheduling placements
  • Tracking students who don’t have placements yet
  • Monitoring the placement to-do sheet for action items
  • Calling placement hosts and answering emails on students who haven’t been given a schedule

Instructional – Onsite and Online

  • Teach students using a systematic plan that consists of lectures, demonstrations, discussion groups, interactive activities, independent and group projects
  • Inform students, beforehand, of the basis upon which their performance will be evaluated;
  • Organize and effectively use classroom time
  • Use instruction techniques/methods that recognize and take into account needs and learning capacities of students
  • Modify techniques during instruction in response to the needs of the students
  • Assist students in developing efficient learning skills and work habits
  • Ensure all course objectives and modules are taught according to the program schedules
  • Implement course outlines and daily breakdowns
  • Adapt course delivery methods in light of the needs of the students
  • Establish an appropriate atmosphere in the classroom which is conducive to learning
  • Maintain fair, firm and consistent discipline with the students
  • Regularly monitor student progress and adjust courses accordingly
  • Prepare teaching materials and outlines for courses
  • Prepare, administer and mark tests and papers to evaluate students’ progress
  • Provide individualized tutorial or remedial instruction to students who require it
  • Supervise independent or group projects
  • Base the evaluation of students on the guidelines established by the College
  • Ensure that the evaluation of students is appropriate;
  • Keep accurate and complete records of student performance
  • Ensure all evaluation records are regularly updated on the college’s electronic server;
  • Prepare final examinations in accordance with guidelines established on the course outline
  • Provide timely feedback to students regarding academic progress

Other

  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation in areas of responsibility
  • Maintain professional registration through your governing body
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Qualifications

Education

The successful candidate needs to have a Pharmacy Technician Diploma and be a registered pharmacy technician.

Experience

The successful candidate requires a minimum of 24 months of working experience in their field of study to qualify as an industry instructor. The successful candidate will be required to remain current in the pharmacy technician industry.

Working Conditions

  1. Position location;
    1. Online for theory delivery
    2. Onsite to deliver skills camp (Sudbury, potentially Barrie)
  2. Work environment: Online Classroom, work from home and mock pharmacy for onsite skills
  3. Hours of work: 40 hours per week.
  4. Schedule of work: Typically, Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. This position will be on a flex schedule that may require some time in the evenings.

Compensation

The successful candidate can expect a starting range between $26.00 – $29.00 per hour and will be eligible for medical benefits upon successful completion of their probationary period.
